In 1964 N1CC (K6SXX) was transferred to Fort Riley, Kansas where the callsign WA0ISO was assigned. Most activity was mobile using an SR-160 Hallicrafters 80-40-20 Transceiver and a Webster Bandspanner antenna. I was transferred for a second time in 1964 to Germany. (See Germany story) and returned to the States at Fort Hood, Texas in 1967. Once at Fort Hood, I was assigned the callsign W5QGZ and operated from family quarters on Fort Hood from August 1967 through November 1968.

Fort Hood Station was the Hallicrafters SR-150 running 100W on 80-10. Antennas were an 80-40 Trap Dipole and a TH2 for 20-25-10. Some contesting was done, however, most operation was on the County Hunters Net as a mobile in a total of 115 Texas Counties. While at Fort Hood was TDY to Fort Devens, MA where I operated mobile and at K1KBO during the 1968 ARRL DX (CW) Contest.

In December 1968 I transferred to the Ready Reserve and served until May 31, 1981 when I Retired as a Command Sergeant Major. Following my active service I moved to Dallas, Texas as an civilian employee of the U. S. Army. (See First Texas page to continue the story)
