About N1CC's Radio Station In Germany

This page was last updated on December 14, 2009

I arrived in Germany in June 1964 and was shortly licensed as DL4LA. My first rundfunkstellen was in the town of Buedingen, Germany. The rig then was an SR-160 (80-40-20) Transceiver to a dipole drooped out the window to a tree in the backyard. Not many contacts resulted from this "lash-up".

By January 1965 I was in Family Quarters and had upgraded to an SR-150 (80-10) Transceiver and an 80-10 Trapped Dipole in the open attic of a four story building. Took part in WAE, ARRL DX and CQWW with good results.

I was the Battalion Communications Chief and S-2 Sergeant by the time this picture showing me tuning up a MARS BC-610-I at the club station that Walt, DL5NC, and I established in 1967 before my return to CONUS.

Walt, DL5NC (K5SXO today on Lake Texoma, Texas) and his Assistant Operator "Skippy" who would help Walt operate is SB-100 to a similar antenna to the one that I had up in the attic of the family quarters (Thank goodness another building!)

Walt has remained one of my best friends for 44 years. (He was a Second "Looie" in this picture, and was my boss as the Battalion S-2) (Walt retired as an LTC from the USAR)
